About The Children's Dietitian
I believe in getting the right care, at the right time
Hi I'm Cheryl and welcome to The Children's Dietitian
Advice you can trust from a registered paediatric dietitian, and mum of two.
You’re here looking for a dietitian, and you probably want to know if I can offer you real advice that you can trust, so here is a bit about The Children’s Dietitian before you connect.
Located in Leeds West Yorkshire, I am a registered dietitian specialising in paediatrics. I have a BSc Honours degree in Human Nutrition, a second BSc Honours degree in Nutrition and Dietetics, and I hold master’s credits in advanced professional practice in paediatric dietetics. Like all other dietitians I am governed and regulated by the Health and Care Professions Council, and I am a member of the British Dietetic Association, and the paediatric specialist group
I am a published academic author, with research published in peer-reviewed journals, and I frequently provide content for professional publications, as well as educate other healthcare professionals through talks and webinars.
I have a wealth of experience both within the NHS and working privately, and I work hard to support children and families from birth to adulthood. My experience includes, but is not limited to infant and toddler nutrition, nutritional deficiencies such as iron deficiency, weaning, fussy eating, food allergies and intolerance, faltering growth, weight management, gastrointestinal disorders such as reflux, coeliac disease, Crohn’s disease, constipation, and toddler diarrhoea. I see enteral feeding patients meaning those who are fed through a feeding tube, and in hospital I see a whole host of complex conditions, but feel free to get in touch if something else is concerning you, because if I cannot help, I may be able to find you the person who can. You can therefore be assured that the information I provide is based on experience, evidence based, and specialist.
Ensuring that families can access credible and useful information is super important to me, and so alongside my clinical work I run a blog and publish magazine articles to try and bust the myths and misinformation, and provide evidenced-based advice to parents in a way that is easy to understand and practical.
I’m a Mum of two girls (there is me and my little family on the left) and understand things from a parent’s perspective as well as a professional one, so I like to think that the support I give has both the child and parent’s best interests in mind. I tend to take a whole family approach to ensure that advice and plans are suitable, practical, and tailored to individual needs which usually leads to better outcomes.
As well as one to one consultations, I enjoys educating patient groups, students and peers, and contributing to research.

Fussy Eating
Fussy/ picky eating is one of the most common nutritional issues I see in private practice, as it is often dismissed as a ‘real’ problem by other health professionals, but it can have a significant impact on children and their families. It can impact family life, relationships, physical and mental health, so for me this is a ‘REAL’ problem. If your child / family are struggling with the effects of fussy eating, you are not alone and I can help you. You can find some useful information on my blog and resources pages to support you, or head over to my contact page to reach out to me.
Cow's milk protein allergy
The second most common problem I deal with privately is cow’s milk protein allergy. Time and time again I hear parents tell me that their baby suffered for months crying in pain and vomiting, only to be told by their health professionals that “babies cry”, “babies are sick”, “your baby has colic”, “you’re an anxious mum”. I can’t begin to tell you how upset stories like this make me feel. Cow’s milk protein allergy is another very ‘REAL’ nutritional problem that dietitians are qualified to deal with. If you think your baby may have cow’s milk allergy and you don’t feel like anyone is listening, please get in touch.
